south south bronx

Three days of steroids, hydrocortisone, and two types of antihistamine later, my hives seem to be improving. This was the first day this week I haven’t spoken to a doctor, or gone to buy medication. Things are looking up! And my skin looks pretty awesome too… fading red marks all over the place, covered in bruises from itching. I’m just really happy it seems to be going away, and I can sleep at night. Still no clue what caused it, though.

And not that I’m keeping a list or anything, but reason #5729 that Matt is the best boyfriend ever: he’s very, very comforting when I’m very, very frustrated with this mystery outbreak. He’s the best.

Wednesday night, we went out with a gigantic group of people to see The Dark Knight at the Imax. The movie was better than I expected, and of course it’s spectacular seeing it on such a huge screen. Sadly, they cut Wendy’s scene. Also, one of my favorite moments was when he jumped off the building in Hong Kong, because for half a second, that sensation in Imax was exactly what it felt like to skydive. I loved it.

Last night, we decided to explore new locales, which resulted in a gigantic WIN. We first went to Tailgate Sports Cafe, this crazy-looking bar on Nicollet and 60th that fascinated us every time we drove past. We decided to go watch the MLS all-star game there, and quickly decided that the place was Lyle’s South. They have the trio of man-games (Silver Strike, Big Buck Hunter, and Golden Tee), darts, karaoke, TouchTunes, the naked lady machine (ie Megatouch), trivia on the TV, and many, many sporting events being broadcast. Their menu is pretty extensive, though the only thing for me was a grilled cheese. I’m fine with that.

Wendy and Amelia joined us for dinner, and after they left, Matt and Cindi and I decided to check out David Fong’s, because we keep seeing their stupid commercials on TV. Holy crap, what an amazing place. It’s like the Dragon (complete with very similar drinks), only it’s mostly full of middle-aged parents out on the town. We sat in the main bar at first, and watched karaoke. A dude brought his own saxophone for a song, and there was a lady well into her 40s wearing a very tight Run-DMC tshirt. When we went to the bathroom, we discovered another secret bar (ok, maybe not exactly secret, but new to us) in the back, which was very dark and littered with pulltabs. The bartender was hilarious. Drinks were cheap. I want to have parties in their banquet room every weekend. You should check it out.

And now, I’m going to go try to make it through the last couple hours of work before weekendtime. Hope yours is excellent, amigos mios.
