the reason i may not have heard about the free beads at the swarm game

Dear Melo,

Please tell me you weren’t drinking Melotinis when you got a DUI yesterday. We’d feel bad.

So, it’s been about 7 weeks since last I posted, or at least that’s how it seems. You know what that means? BULLETS!

  • We got to meet Suzi, saw our last Wolves game of the season from extremely awesome lower-level seats, and watched the end of the Wild game at Sneaky Pete’s, everyone’s favorite sports-bar-staffed-by-strippers-who-also-work-next-door-at-Dream-Girls.
  • Watched the 2nd Wild game at Lyle’s (an entire bar full of people yelling at the end of the game? Spectacular!), then ended the evening at such classic Northeast establishments as the Knight Cap and Jimmy’s.
  • Make cupcakes, watched the NCAA hockey championship, hung out with a creepily-horny cat and rum at Cindi’s apartment, went to celebrate Missy’s birthday at Nye’s and the Palace. I LOVE THE PALACE. It’s retarded.
  • Spent an entire day not moving, for reasons I could not control. Please see below.
  • Watched a very gratifying and ever-stressful Wild game, which kept the entire state up past their bedtimes.

Saturday, I was at mi casa making cupcakes, because that’s where the KitchenAid stand mixer is. I was busily prying open the cupboard containing the whisk attachment with a knife handle and a wooden spoon when I felt my back doing something not quite right. It continued to hurt a lot for the rest of the day, so I took a bunch of ibuprofin and continued about my bidness, some of which included dancing the Cupid Shuffle. It’s important.

Sunday morning, I got up and was fine for about 20 minutes. Then my back started feeling tighter, so I went and laid on the floor as it got worse. Every time I sat up, it would spasm (or I assume that’s what the horrific stabbing feeling up and down my side was about). It was really bad. I finally got it to relax and was able to sit down and start slamming fistfuls of painkillers. Or, you know, four at a time. Matt went to Walgreens and got me some menthol patches to put on my back, and that helped a lot. But mostly I couldn’t move for much of the day, and there’s nothing worse than being forced to stay in one place when you know you’re stuck there. Thankfully, it had improved enough for walking by the evening.

Yesterday, I felt like my ribs were bruised all the way around, presumably from being stiff. Many more painkillers later, I was pretty good by eveningtide. It’s bugging me again today but definitely much improved. I’ll be happy when I can return to the gym, and I really hope this isn’t primarily because I’ve been trying to work my rotator cuffs at the gym. One thing I’m not a fan of is more time in physical therapy for stupid overuse injuries.

Also last night, Matt made polenta with cognac-cream sauce, which got lit on fire in a spectacular way. And ever since it got warm yesterday, we’ve been dying over the fact that we have plans to grill tonight. Who cares if there’s typhoon-scale winds approaching? It’s practically summer!

GO WILD!!
Jenni
