Howdy.
I’ve been thinking about cars. I was kind of figuring that when the house sold, I’d also sell Chico and get me a new vehicle. He’s elderly and somewhat the worse for wear, although I have never in his life had engine trouble; it’s all stupid stuff like the sunroof only opening and not closing, and the fact his foglamps fell out somewhere in the past 10,000 miles. I figure one of these days, things are going to start getting more critical. So I’ve been looking at cars, and by this I mean that I peer at them as I whiz past them on the freeway. You probably already know this, but 99% of cars are ugly. I know it’s all about mechanical engineering and streamlining and such, but design standards for the auto industry as a whole are whacked. I’ve managed to compile a list of what I don’t want, and one would think from this it would be easy for me to choose. Here are my guidelines:- No SUVs. No conversion vans, no matter how hot. No minivans, although this should go without saying. Nothing with ‘wagon’ in the name.
- No tractor-trailers or buses, as I cannot park these on my street.
- I’m really not a fan of American cars at all. The only exception to this is pickup trucks.
- Nothing everyone in my career path drives, i.e. a VW Beetle, Passat, or Jetta. Why is Volkswagen the official geek ride?
- Nothing a stockbroker, lawyer, or cokehead drives: BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, or a fucking Hummer.
- I think I’d like something other than a Saab this time.
- European cars like my Saab, i.e. Volvo or Audi
- Jeep, the small kind
- Japanese cars (I like some of the Mitsubishi models)
- The classic car I really want, which is a bad idea right now
- I’d totally rock a Cooper Mini
- A small pickup truck, especially this one. This would be the current favorite option.
Jenni * Speaking of which, the one-year anniversary of the day we met is on Saturday. What’s that? Is it… yes! It’s sweeeeeet!!
