i need beach

Ooooooh I am ready for vacation. It’s even nice in Mpls for once!

Last night was the first night of .NET class. We have 40 hours of VB.NET (6-10pm Tuesdays and one full Saturday, OUCH), then we move on to ASP.NET. It’s pretty cool that we get to learn about writing regular apps before we even move on to the web-focused stuff. Plus it sounds pretty intense, like we’ll be pros when we’re done. I’m really excited about this class.

I’m taking it with Tom and Bertine. Tom wants to be the teacher’s pet, which is hysterical. I walked in and he was sitting in the very front row, new notebook at the ready. Bertine was near the back. We assembled in the front row, which made it really uncomfortable when the teacher, Christopher, said ‘Accsex’ instead of ‘Access’ four times. I controlled my giggling until I noticed that Bertine was laughing, too. So wrong.

The class makeup is totally what one would expect: a bunch of 35+ dudes trying to get into the field, or who have been thrown into it with no real training. Tom’s the only one who has a real OOP background. Bertine and I are the only girls, of course. The teacher has been in emerging technologies for years. He project-managed the original nwa.com. He knows the bidness, and that’s completely awesome. I’m looking forward to next week, when I’ll learn to do more than make a little box with a giant button that alerts you that Tom is bringing brownies for the whole class next week when you click on it.

The remainder of this week, I’ve been scrambling to get everything done before I leave, and I’m set except for cat food and painting my toenails, which are obviously the most critical part of any trip preparation. I’m going to go home, clean up, and finish packing before going to bed really early, because I have to get up at 3am; we’ll be at the aeroport by 0400 hours. Blech, but it puts us in Nassau by noon, which rules.

I’ll possibly post photos on Flickr while I’m gone, because I like to taunt you. Oh! And before I go, I should mention my new favoritest internet-thing ever:

43things, 43places, 43people. If you are on there, you should clickify me and such.

Time to go. See you next week!!

your questions, answered

q:
Why aren’t there comments on your site?

a:
Because I don’t care what you think.

Hahaha. Ok, that’s not true. How would you feel if people were approving or critizicing your diary? This is my life, so I don’t feel the need to have it judged. Not in such a way that I can see it, that is.

When there’s stuff I want to discuss or announce excitedly or complain about, I do it on livejournal. That’s where I go to interact in that sense.
