I have returned!

So, the Bahamas were fantastic and we spent exactly the right amount of time there: enough for me to get sunburnt and swim in the ocean and do a hell of a lot of walking, but not long enough to get bored. I will be writing in ye olde travel journal once I have time, of course, but in the meantime I have my favorite photos for your review.

And, oh my god, snorkeling. LOVED IT. So much. I want to go again. In fact, I want to go scuba diving now. So completely awesome. I brought my underwater camera to Target for developing, and I will find out this evening if my fish-photos turned out OK.

I was supposed to be home Sunday evening, but our flight was delayed leaving Nassau, and we missed our connection. Every single Delta flight was overbooked and they were bumping people all over the place from these little 50-seat planes (it’s weird to travel internationally on a plane not larger than a tour bus), which is pretty lame. The dude at the gate in Nassau was superawesome and tried everything he could to get us back to Minneapolis, but it was simply not possible.

Therefore, we got to spend the night in KENTUCKINNATI. We got in about 7:30, went to the desk and got hotel and meal vouchers ($7, good anywhere in the airport… uh, yeah.) We took the 11am flight back to Minneapolis the next day, and I was so tired from airports and flying that I really wanted to not go to work, but work had other plans for me. Just for a few hours.

Today I am wearing the souvenir I acquired in Kentucky, which basically made that whole travel delay totally worthwhile. Then again, I was not entirely thrilled with the airline industry when I checked my WorldPerks account and discovered that I have 34,937 miles, whereas the cheapest flight to Alaska requires 35,000. Not a huge deal considering there are a few crafty ways to get 63 more miles, but still! BASTARDS!!!

Last night I spent unpacking and downloading vacation photos while Chris made about 37 pizzas (well, more like 6) so we’d both have leftovers to bring to work. Later I took a bath, and while most people read romance novels in the tub, I read Murach’s Beginning VB.NET. That’s because tonight is the second class! And I’m going to continue my highly-acclaimed programming career by coding a form with one input box, two calculated fields, and two buttons. You are impressed, I know it!

Before I go, I will pester you one last time about this, because today is LAST CALL FOR TRUFFLES. We’ve raised close to $1,800 on this fundraiser so far. Your order helps Team Boobylicious achieve our goal of raising $20,000 for breast cancer research. You’ll feel good about joining in the fight, and you’ll get awesome truffles to boot. Please order now!

your questions, answered

q:
When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?

a:
Oh, I had big plans. As I recall:

  • a marine biologist
  • a museum curator
  • a vet (i think every little girl planned on this at some point)
  • an owner of various shops
  • business manager, as i had (have) an office-supply fetish
