sniffle.

I HAVE RETURNED!
…somewhat unwillingly.

I don’t have sufficient words to describe how amazing and beautiful Alaska is, but I know I cried a hell of a lot on the return flight. Coming home to darkness was bizarre.

Tonight I’m going to start working on my photos, of which i have something on the order of 650 (I had to buy another SD card in Anchorage), so for now I’ll just make a short list of what I did in Alaska:

  • stayed in a little cabin on a hill overlooking Denali National Park
  • hiked all over some of the most remote places I’ve ever seen
  • stood 10′ from a grizzly bear
  • got very used to the midnight sun
  • cruised out into the Gulf of Alaska
  • began to feel like my pack and hiking boots were extensions of my body
  • peed on a mountaintop overlooking the Savage River
  • fell in love with the Kenai Peninsula, so much I didn’t want to leave
  • watched and heard a glacier calve into the ocean
  • saw two kinds of whales, grizzly and black bears, dall sheep, caribou, sea otters, marmots, moose, sea lions, and PUFFINS!!!

And now, I must adjust to work-life again. Hope you all had an excellent holiday, and I will return soon with photos!
