i’m saying words in lunchbox time.

Here are my last 48 hours:

  • Sat 11am: playing shuffleboard on deck 11 as the ship pulled into Nassau
  • Sat 1pm: having a mojito de naranja on Paradise Island
  • Sat 6pm: worrying that our favorite shipmates hadn’t made it back on board, since they were last seen at Senor Frog’s*
  • Sat 11pm: wearing a toga and leafy crown at the Roman Bacchanal
  • Sun 1am: saying goodbye to our favorite shipmates and cruise staff
  • Sun 8am: arriving in the U.S. once again
  • Sun 10am: riding an airboat in the Everglades
  • Sun 11am: holding a baby alligator
  • Sun 1pm: hating Ft Lauderdale International Airport with a fiery, burning passion
  • Sun 8pm: wandering around downtown Atlanta
  • Mon 1am: racing to Matt’s as fast as Miguel could go
  • Mon 10am: realizing that work is, in fact, the exact opposite of a tropical island

I am perhaps a little disoriented today.

And another list! Since last Sunday, I have been on:

  • a cruise ship
  • four airplanes
  • an airport taxi
  • a lifeboat doubling as a tender boat
  • a catamaran
  • an airboat
  • a tour bus
  • a Dominican taxi-van
  • an aerial tram
  • two water taxis
  • a monorail
  • a subway

This may explain what I and my fellow-travellers are experiencing particularly intensely today: mal de debarquement. How dramatic-sounding is that? I spent a lot of time sort of dizzy and wobbly on the ship due to both waves and vertigo, but I expected that; what I did not expect was to be land-sick. My cube is spinning and I walk like I’m drunk.

Wait. Maybe I’m just having flashbacks.

I’ll be back here in a day or two, hopefully with some photos to show. Right now, downloading them all seems an insurmountable task. Also, I’m going to the Twins opener tonight with many of my favorite people on earth, and after that, I’m seriously hoping Matt has no intention of getting up off the couch, as I plan on spending the rest of it laying on him. A week was a painfully-long time to be apart from the the boy I love, which is why he’s coming along on all future vacations.

And so you know, our cruise exceed my expectations in every way. I have nothing but good things to say about Costa, their crew, and their ship. I’d tell you to book your cruise right now, but they’re headed back to Europe on Sunday. Maybe next year!

Also, I guess my interview is in this month’s Metro, but I haven’t seen it yet! If it sucks, don’t tell me.
