Update: the ratio of stuff going on to time to tell you about it is currently 40:1.
ThursdayWe made a spectacular return to Keegan’s pub quiz (as the Ninja Warrior All-Stars) and won us free drinks and more entries to the vacation drawing we never actually attend. We’ve probably won trips to Boston twice by now! Friday
I got my new travel journal running to my satisfaction, and I like the new ease-of-use so much that I actually started working on my Alaska trip. I’m hoping to have the whole thing up to date by, say, 2009. Wait, I mean by Labor Day, since that’s the next big trip. Can I do this? Good question. We grilled out on Matt’s patio with Cindi and Wendy, then got up to hijinx. I made tostones, peanut sauce, and a salad containing black beans, mango, cotilla, and corn I first charred on the grill. YUM. Saturday
We got up earlier than we generally do for work and headed to St Louis Park for the Team Boobylicious Pancake Breakfast. Our turnout was much better than expected, everybody had a good time, and we even convinced a bunch of people out wandering around to stop in for breakfast. Our favorite was the police officer. In the afternoon, Matt and I went to Canterbury Park for Gopher Sports Day. Neither of us had been to horse racing before, and we figured the zero-dollar entrance fee plus Goldy made for a great excuse. And OH MAN, I LOVED IT. We got in and figured out how to place bets right away. I picked a horse named ‘Engaging Lover’ to win in the first race, because I thought it was a funny name. On the way out to the track, we saw Goldy naked (i.e. without his costume on); thankfully, it was Football Goldy, or I might have been scarred. I’ve hugged him a lot, after all. My horse won, and I earned $21.60 on my $2 bet. That covered the rest of my betting for the day. SCORE. The same thing happened to Matt later in the afternoon. We had a really good time. In the eveningtide, we went to Mayslack’s with Cindi to see LAM JAM, a classic-and-southern-rock cover band we thought would be the local version of Seven Tall. They were great, and the couple of big events going on there (a bachelor party and wagon train?) were entertaining. After the first set, we went over to play naked ladies in the bar, and got our highest score ever. If only there was an Olympic event, we’d be gold medalists. We headed up the street to Jimmy’s, because 1) Matt hadn’t seen the swinging doors in the bathroom and 2) they have awesome bar pizza, even though we weren’t hungry (it made sense at the time). The place was mobbed and really funny. We had a long argument about reverse cowgirl. They have a drink like a greenie, only not so sweet (it’s called the Bullfrog). The bartender was awesome, and forgot to charge us for a round. Also, we were extremely smart: we left around 12:30 and headed to Santana’s, where the old owner-dude was berating some girls out on the patio for reasons we did not know. We ate our food quietly and tried not to do anything wrong. Sunday
Josh and Jumi took Cindi and I shooting up at his family’s place outside Hinckley. We got to shoot a sniper rifle, three different handguns, and a shotgun. I actually liked the shotgun best, despite the lack of accuracy; it was the closest to a rifle, and that’s what I’m best at. The AR-15 was too heavy to stand and shoot, so you had to lay down to use it. Which was kind of awesome, but I like sighting things myself. We stood around in the heat and sun for four hours, so I was grimy and exhausted by the time we got home. Matt whipped up a pot of awesome chili, and we had dinner and lounged. I was so sleepy that I was laying on his lap by 10:30. Tonight we’re going to hang out and I’ll probably do laundry, since I won’t have much other time to do so before leaving town. Wendy and Willis rounded up Cubs and Brewers tickets today, and I’m pondering what we should bring in the way of tailgating supplies. We’re going to have so much fun. Also, I’ve encountered very much in the way of generosity towards our 3day team and upcoming silent auction lately, and you dudes should know I appreciate that a lot. It’s less than a month til the walk! Happy Time-To-Go-Home! I’ll be back before vacation, dudes. Jenni
