What I’m talking about.

Hi there.

Reading about Jay’s search for a song, which I’m pretty sure he dreamed about and doesn’t really exist, for some reason reminded me of my favorite childhood song. Whenever I ask people if they know it, they don’t, and then I’m obligated to sing it to them in its ten-verse entirety, shouting and all.

So now I’m asking you, in informal-survey format:

Do you know the Chicago fire song1?

YES!  NO.

So, in doing research on the Chicago fire song, I have made an incredibly important discovery. I think this may, in fact, be the most important document ever published on the internet. OK, don’t let the fact that it’s a 100-page pdf deter you: you will be glad you downloaded, and printed, and made many many copies of it. You will be glad you passed out copies to everyone you know. Trust me.

Enjoy.

1 It’s the one that starts out:

Ten nights ago, when we were all in bed
Old lady Leary put a lantern in the shed…

And so on, until Chicago burns down. Apparently, it’s a girl scout classic, which is probably where I learned it, although I like to believe it’s part of the residency requirements when growing up in Chicago.
