taco smoothie! 6

In the time since I’ve posted here, which feels like three months or so and has really only been a little over a week:

– We saw Rock of Ages and Prometheus at the drive-in. I forgot how completely awesome the drive-in is, especially when the weather is perfect.

– We kayaked on Lake Nokomis on a very very nice day. I liked being able to go under Cedar Avenue and watching massive planes take off. My paddle leash successfully kept everything attached to the boat without getting in my way, too. (My kayak does have a paddle holder, but I’m lazy and just set it across the cockpit while I’m doing anything.) We’re methodically making our way around the nearby lakes and will soon have to branch out to the suburbs!

– We booked tickets to San Francisco with Steve and Colleen the first week in November. The fall travel plans seem to be shaping up in awesome fashion.

– I had the ol’ IUD replaced. It was less pleasant than the original one, but I’m baby-free for another 5 years, so that’s a win for everyone.

this doesn't suck.

– Missy and I drove up to Cindi’s bachelorette party outside Sauk Rapids this weekend. It was fantastic, and we spent a ton of time either playing Cards Against Humanity (the most awesomely offensive game ever) or in/on the lake. There was a pontoon full of 13 ladies, a big cooler, and a tiny puppy, a way-too-strenuous paddle boat ride, some lounging on a water trampoline, and swimming. Despite re-applying sunscreen multiple times, I have a hell of a sunburn everywhere that isn’t already tan. My bra straps hurt.

– Matt and I did some massive re-landscaping along the 54th street side of our house in order to take advantage of our daylily windfall. We pulled out mass quantities of old landscaping fabric (which was useless at this point), and Matt tilled up the dirt so I could plant. There are 73 lilies in all. That’s amazing, and I’m very grateful for that stroke of good timing that led to such a big project. It’s going to look great once the plants fill in.

traveler's life #2

– Having finished all but the buttons on Matt’s very first sweater, I realized that I’m bored to death with all of my knitting projects. So I decided to start a new one that has the added benefit of requiring no counting or much in the way of paying attention. I’m going to make another Traveler’s Life Afghan with just blue, purple, and green yarn, because I like my other one so much. And it’s 365 stitches (at least 100 more than the last one), so it’ll be HUGE. It’s a good sports-watching project.

– OH GOD, what am I going to make for the state fair this year??

– Tomorrow afternoon I have to take a Valium and be driven to the dentist’s office for a 2.5-hour appointment involving a crown extraction, bone graft (have I mentioned that the bone is human? I don’t want a dead person in my face.), and god knows what else in preparation for my tooth implants. They have to do all the prep work and then let it heal for a while, so I’m going to be missing two teeth now. I’m glad that one of them won’t be as visible, because I don’t need to look any more like a hillbilly. They told me to take Thursday off work, but I’m just going to work from home. Let’s see how well that goes.

– Matt promised to make me a taco smoothie if I can’t eat very well. YUM?

I recommend staying away from the taco smoothie. I once made a cheeseburger smoothie in a similar situation and oh my God yuck.

Where are you guys staying again? I just got back, but there’s a whole world of delicious places I could recommend or take you to if we manage to meet up.

it’s called the phoenix hotel, which i think is technically in japantown but maybe in the tenderloin. colleen says it’s described as a party hotel. it has a heated pool. we’re excited about that.

let’s plan something! we’ll be there nov 1-5.

Yeah, that’s smack in the TL. Shitty part of town, but convenient. Let’s do it! There’s a Creole place around the corner from there on Polk, Brenda’s. They have CRAWFISH BEIGNETS, yo. (I know, not relevant to you, but SF is generally kind to the vegetarian crowd.)

Also: Burmese food or Indian pizza (neither are in that ‘hood though).

I don’t have dates yet (I am not sure if BG is going to QCon or not), but I can definitely be up there. I will report back when he figures out if we’re going to the con.
