OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
Seriously! I haven’t had time to think or breathe or attend to most normal personal-hygiene rituals lately, much less post. But I am alive, I am extremely well, and I am here today with yet another bulleted list encompassing the last week-and-a-half. Eek!- Last Tuesday: Town Talk with Jumi, Cindi, and Peter.
- Wednesday: Brit’s, a roundabout, ridiculous trip to Eagan with Cindi piloting a minivan, and then Keegan’s with Bill.
- Thursday: What? Could it be Town Talk again? I may want to marry that place.
- Friday: happy hour at Brit’s, then Matt took me to the airport. Our flight was delayed an hour. We were airborne after 11pm, in a plane with nonworking air conditioning. They said something about attaching portable a/c to it, so all I could picture was a window unit stuck in the side of the airplane. I slept most of the flight.
- Stephanie and I arrived in Denver and picked up our car at 1:30am. It was a gold PT Cruiser. We cursed him, then named him Poontang. We got to bed around 3am.
- Saturday morning: we drove Poontang up to Estes Park and got our hikin’ in the Rockies on. Over 8,000 feet, we encountered a snowstorm! It was awesome, if freezing. I had to buy a fleece.
- The altitude? Even harder than in New Mexico. But my god, the Rockies are amazing. Check out the photos.
- We totally stuck around to see the elk gettin’ it on at dusk. So funny.
- Sunday: brunch at Tom’s Diner in Denver. I fell in love in an instant.
- We drove around and saw the city, then headed to Pepsi Center. Why? To see the Dalai Lama.
- It’s hard to explain what it’s like being in the same building with him. I started crying the second he walked out on stage. He’s such an amazing combination of absolute serenity and goofiness. I loved him. It was over way too soon, but I feel like his insights and just the memory of being there are going to stick with me forever.
- We wandered downtown and found ourselves in the middle of Oktoberfest in Larimer Square.
- …shots of Jagermeister, polkaing, and a tshirt that reads polka like you’ve got a pair. I intend to wear it to Gasthof’s.
- Halfway-to-St-Patrick’s-Day at the Pour House. We met a bunch of dudes from Wisconsin and ended up having a singalong to Don’t Stop Believin’ with the entire bar. It was perfect.
- Very late dinner, and a very sleepy return to the hotel.
- Monday: we went to Colorado Springs to see the Garden of the Gods, and do some more hiking. Reference above pictures. It’s gorgeous.
- The hockey arena (for Stephanie’s WCHA-pride’s sake), the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, and Shepler’s, where I bought some superhot urban cowgirl boots. You know how I know they’re awesome? Gay boys love them.
- We returned to the airport for our flight at 6:30 on the same unairconditioned plane. Dear Northwest Airlines: you had an entire weekend to fix that thing. Hello?
- Wendy dropped me off at home, and I hopped in the car to go to work. I got home after 12:30am. I may have been a little angry.
- Tuesday: lunch with Chele, ran into Sully, Moxie (heart), Town Talk.
- Wednesday: took Chloe to the vet, because she’s gotten skinny. They tell me she has hyperthyroidism! My poor old kitty. But I just have to give her thyroid medication and she’ll be fine. She’s in otherwise good shape, even if Chiva doesn’t know who she is now that she returned smelling like OTHER CATS.
- Kaye made dinner, we watched Fear and Loathing (since we’re hopefully going to Vegas in January), then we went to the Nascar Bar. We meant to only go for a bit for the amusement factor, but it ended up being hysterical, and Bill stopped by as well.
- Today: Work became slightly less painful. It’s been vastly frustrating for the past week. I am very much looking forward to this evening, but I guess you’ll have to wait to hear about that. Hopefully not for another nearly-two-weeks, though. Promise!
