Last night, we went to see The Most Interesting Show in the World at the Cabooze. We had free tickets, and what we learned when we arrived was that there was also free beer. WIN. The show is very aptly named, and featured such things as a man holding his breath underwater for 15 minutes (breaking the world record), contortionists, a burlesque show, magic, and a man inside a balloon showering the audience with confetti. Also, it was hosted by Andrew WK, who performed a few songs in between. It was a spectacle, and we enjoyed the hell out of it. Thanks, Dos Equis!
Tuesday night post-voting, we went to my parents’ house. I haven’t seen them since well before we went to Hawaii, mostly because my mom has been in Upper Michigan taking care of my great-aunt. She had champagne waiting for us to toast the engagement, and she’s pretty much only been talking about wedding ever since. I was more than a little stressed out when she called with a list of questions last night. Next September is a long time from now! I’m really glad she’s so excited, though.
My mom brought a giant pile of 1960-70s vintage drink stirrers back from my great-aunt’s, in addition to some other old cocktail paraphernalia. I had just been telling Matt about this collection recently, because I loved to play with them as a kid, and apparently they’re becoming trendy again. So many of them are from old Vegas casinos and Miami Beach lounges. I love them! (She also brought back some 1965 menus from Western and United Airlines. I’m just gonna think about that next time I’m eating the six tiny pretzels that Delta hands out.)
We’ve managed to get the yard ready for winter in the last couple of days, too. Everything is cleaned out of the garden except for the kale and collards, which I’ll pull for freezing this weekend. (I froze at least 4 cups of stems from the lemongrass last Sunday. Crazy.) Matt did the final mowing and mulched the leaves while I put down landscape fabric and wood chips in the front garden. The chairs are stowed in the basement, but we’re not ready to give up the grill quite yet.
Tonight is bowling, which, after a conversation with Joe about it, reminded me that I’m now the type of person who analyzes bowling league with others.
It could be worse, though; I could be a golfer.
P.S. Have you been reading Matt’s articles for Zane Lamprey’s Drinking Made Easy? Well, you should, because they’re excellent. The TV show’s pretty amusing, too. Here are the three he’s written so far:
