Reason #568 my friends rule:

me: know what’s awesome?
wendy: everything?

I used to feel bad for perpetually unhappy people, but having spent much time amongst a very positive, upbeat crowd (people who suffer the same setbacks and problems as everyone else on earth, just deal with them differently), I now just find dissatisfaction frustrating. That’s because having the best life ever is a choice, not fate or luck or anything anyone’s ever done to you.

Anyway. Sayin’.

Dudes!! The plague is receding. Far, far too slowly, but that seems to be the case for everyone. I’m no longer dependent on Dayquil, I can halfway hear, I blow my nose and cough 75 fewer times a day on average, and I can get through an entire workday without laying under my desk covered in sheets of newspaper. And not a moment to soon, for tonight is broomball. Come hell, high water, or too many men on the ice, I’m playing.

In the days since last we spoke, I’ve made an effort to slow down and recover. I’ve been late at work every day, because emergencies like to present themselves only after 3:30pm lately. On Monday, I made beer-cheese soup at Matt’s (one of my goals this year is to try a new recipe a week), while he cuddled with his new deep-frying robot. Tuesday was knitting, where we discussed our spring and summer plans, which are so exciting that right away, Bill was looking up state parks on his laptop. Is January too early to have spring fever? I’m dying to camp.

Last night, we had dinner at Cafe Twenty Eight, then I went to photography class with Jumi, Wendy, and Stephanie. Oh man, this class is going to be great. The instructor’s first official job was as photographer in the Soviet Army, and he moved here from Ukraine ten years ago. He already gave us some great tips, and he complimented my photos a lot. I was proud. Afterward, there was science. Some very highly-successful experiments. And yeah.

Today, my goals are to not have to stay late, to go play broomball, and then to go join the homies at Keegan’s for the late-round of pub quiz, because I know the answer to the Gaborik question is 11, and that’s my important contribution for today. Also, you should probably go read Wendy’s account of our Vegas trip, because she did a far better job of it than I did. Here are installments one, two, and three.

Have an excellent Thursday, youse guys.
Jenni
