in the membrane

Fun fact: every time I refer to the garden as my crops (because I’m totally an urban farmer – but not an urban homesteader, Colleen, there’s a difference), I get Cypress Hill’s “Insane in the Brain” stuck in my head. It could be worse.

Last night, I decided that we were unlikely to return to winter in the next few weeks, so I planted the rest of the garden. We have lettuce, spinach, kale, carrots, radishes, amaranth, leeks, beets, parsnips, peas, pole beans, Italian beans, edamame, corn, cauliflower, lemongrass, swiss chard, and peanuts. There’s also a new Earthbox full of herbs.

I need to still get broccoli, celery, and zucchini, and then Bill and I will be building self-watering containers for tomatoes and peppers. I’m pretty damn excited about my farm, and hopefully the squirrels will stay the hell away from the corn this year. I’ll be spraying it with hot pepper to help with that.

Speaking of Bill, he and Katie are parents!! Abigail arrived yesterday. I can’t wait to meet her!

Yesterday was Dining out for Life, so three coworkers and I went to Sawatdee for lunch, and then Matt and I had dinner at Azia. Both places were insanely crowded. The Aliveness Project did well yesterday, and that’s important.

In other news, I’ve been terrible keeping up on sports lately, because of vacation and other business like letterpress class. I’m usually all over the playoffs, but I barely know what’s going on right now (except for the fact that OKC beat the Lakers twice, and Lebron’s elbow… I don’t want to think about that). Also, I need to read up on the Derby horses. A portion of this weekend will be dedicated to reclaiming my sports fandom, I believe.

But now… it’s time to write some code. Happy Friday!!
