letterpress excitement

At open studio on Monday, I did a test print of my bird lino block. I mostly wanted to see how much more linoleum-gouging I had to do, but it was great to see it turn into something real:

Rather than spend my time in class scraping, we decided I should start printing the text. I’m doing a calendar page, with metal type for the dates and wood block for the name of the month. Since metal and wood print differently, we’re doing it in three runs. So let’s just hope my measuring skills are up to par.

Once I got the type block lined up (seriously, it probably took half an hour to get it in the right place), I printed 12 copies on really nice paper. And holy crap, it’s exciting: the text came out nice and clean, and the impression is perfect.

Next week I’ll have the final edition of my first on-my-own letterpress project!
