Delta credited my miles over the weekend. It only took three weeks and three increasingly-snarky requests! Just in time for our next flight on their lovely airline.
I will seriously pay someone $5 if they can accurately predict what it will cost for us to check a bag apiece to and from Puerto Rico. Here is the situation:
1) I bought the tickets in March on nwa.com. Northwest currently charges $25 per bag ($5 more if you do it in person!), but because they were purchased long ago, the old baggage rules should apply. Please scroll through the 10-page series of charts to find that date range.
2) We have regular coach class, which should be $15 each.
3) But according to the two asterisks: For travel to/from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, the first and second checked bags are free. Hey, Puerto Rico is part of the Caribbean. Or is it, according to Northwest? And why are Canada and Mexico listed as notes under the domestic chart? By ‘Caribbean’, do they only mean the countries that aren’t US territories?
4) Delta.com has no such complicated baggage policy: it’s $15 for the first bag. But we’re flying Delta there and Northwest back, so does that mean we get one policy on the way there and one on the way back?
5) Will I get the correct miles credited? Wait, I already know the answer to that.
you’ll get charged for them. PR is a domestic flight.
you’ll get delta’s policy on the way there and nwa’s on the way back. they’re still operating as two separate airlines. (even though you wouldn’t really know that from going to MSP since they’ve already changed all the airport branding). I flew on 2 nwa operated flights on planes that said delta on them over the weekend.
another maddening thing – they charge a surcharge on bags paid for at the airport, but I dare you to try and find the baggage payment option when you check in on nwa.com. that’s because IT’S NOT THERE.
ok, i’m planning to pay $15 for either airline because at least the old baggage rules apply on nwa. i’m bringing the damn printout chart of their fees with me.
seriously? i will throw down. they’re a spectacular mess right now.
Yeah, I would guess 15 each way. In theory, they should have rules in the computer that knows what to charge you. I wouldn’t bet money on that though.
now that I say that, it doesn’t seem like they’re charging that airport surcharge, i looked at my flight from last month and they only charged me $25.00
I think the biggest mess of it is that they’ve rushed to change all the branding, etc before they start operating under one carrier certificate, systems, etc which is confusing as hell not just to us as passengers but also to a lot of their employees.
I don’t check a bag that often anymore, but for a week long trip that’s tough.
yeah, we’re getting good at avoiding checking bags. but it’s a 10-day trip, and we’ll obviously be bringing booze home with us!
they posted my las vegas miles in about 3 hours. new record.
they must be caught up.
matt doesn’t have his yet! maybe you and i are the squeaky wheels. LET’S HOPE.
