sigh.
Camping was SO AWESOME. It’s hard to be back at a desk in clean clothes, making lunch in the microwave instead of charring it over a fire.
We spent the weekend at
Brunet Island in Wisconsin, a state park a couple of hours away from here. I can’t believe I’d never heard of the area before, because it was amazing. We had two adjoining campsites for the eight of us, right on a lagoon with a channel that brought us out to the Chippewa River. We rented two canoes, got a forest’s worth of firewood, and spend the weekend hanging out. It was a little bit cold at night, but I am lucky enough to have the warmest boyfriend around.
Matt and I did a lot of canoeing on Saturday, even paddling down to the beach to brave the cold water. We also spent some time just floating on the river with Cindi and Willis, singing Journey and drinking Sparks (it’s a long story). Wendy, Riley, Matt and I discovered the
wayward sheep on the island, and later heard about how they wandered off and the locals had been trying to catch them for two weeks. We did a lot of sitting around the campfire laughing, and Cindi even got up to some
crafts.
Twas an excellent weekend, and it was hard to leave that place. I’d like to hold a vote on going there next Memorial Day, dudes. (Also, here are the
rest of the pictures!)
Last night, we were dedicated to not doing much of anything except unpacking camping stuff. We watched the rest of the
Blue Planet series, repeatedly freaking out over things like
cold-seep communities (a lake under the ocean? MY MIND IS STILL BLOWN). This prompted me to go find video of the
cutest thing you will ever see in your entire life. Seriously.
Today I have been very productive, by which I mean I bought bagels, yogurt, and cat food at Lunds, then went to check out the new yarn store across the street (Bella Lana), which is dangerously near my work. It’s basically fetish material for me: one of the owners was an architect for most of her life, so the store design is incredible. The yarn is higher-end stuff, and gorgeous. I stood there and talked to her for a very long time, because she’s clearly one of those people who’s been everywhere and can discuss any topic you could imagine. Basically, I want to be her if I ever decide to grow up.
That seems unlikely anytime soon, however.
