In addition to hockey, fall equals baking.

Last night, I made lemon cupcakes to bring to Matt’s. His parents are in town, and his aunt and uncle will be there for dinner tonight. His dad is always excited about baked things, and so it makes me very glad to provide them. I brought leftovers to work, and they disappeared within the first hour. Score!

Also last night, I beat Matt and his dad at dominoes. I shouldn’t gloat, but it’s a rare moment when one can triumph over two master strategists. My penalty for this was having to sleep at home, since the parents were staying with him. The two benefits to sleeping in my own bed are:

1) Unlimited shower time in the evening, which allows for detail shaving. (I like to make you think that ‘detail shaving’ implies things like, you know, heart shapes.)

2) Finding out that the alarm on my new phone is the happiest sound ever (apart from the ringtone, which is the University of Minnesota rouser). It conjures thoughts of tiny, smiley robots skipping around on my pillow, possibly eating triple-decker ice cream cones. If I hadn’t opened my eyes to Cocoa’s butt, I might have even been thrilled to wake up.

In other news, Wendy the chimp has decided to take me up on the post-a-day challenge! And speaking of challenges, here’s another good one: just try having a bad day when you’re wearing silver-and-orange mary janes from Diesel. Trust me, it just isn’t possible.
