shut up when i’m talking to you

…and I’ve been wearing the same clothes for two days.

I don’t know why. You know, you open the closet and you say, ‘hey, clothes!’ and you put them on and that’s the last you really think about it. So they’re a little worn in. I’m unfancy.

There’s a lot to catch up on since Monday. Monday! What was that, like 2 months ago? Anyway. Here we go.

ITEM ONE: the house.
No sale. I think I didn’t mention we had an offer.

ITEM TWO: the apartment.
I got that perfect apartment I was hoping for, and it falls into my possession on Wednesday. I am a packin’ foo’, yes indeedy. I’ve never lived alone, but I think I’ll like it. I’m very very very (very) excited about my new apartment.

ITEM THREE: me.
I’m hungry.

ITEM FOUR: holiday love.
The girls of plinko[punkt]net have volunteered to put together six holiday baskets from the Aliveness Project this year. We have a family of four (a mom with three kids) and two single men. We were nearly in tears over one of the men’s requests: a winter coat with a hood, and a broom. Argh.

So the deal is that you spend about $30/person in gifts for the basket. We’ll be wrapping them and delivering them by December 17. If you’d like to contribute gifts or money, please to let me know.

ITEM FIVE: thanksgiving.
Stephanie volunteered to drive. Escobar volunteered to ride in back, play video games, and provide ongoing political commentary. I volunteered to knit and iPod-DJ. I brought four knitting projects, unsure of how much I could get done. I ran out of yarn on the xmas legwarmers, the faux-suede pillow covers, and the felted alpaca mittens. I almost finished with the mohair throw I’ve been working on and off for a few months. Much, much knitting was accomplished, and very little of Wisconsin was even noticed along the way.

As a refreshing break from tradition, the holiday at gramma’s in Upper Michigan was completely awesome. Stephanie and I got up to some absolutely stupid hijinx in Peshtigo. We entertained ourselves Friday by adopting southern accents and walking around stores jabbering loudly. I found the most fantastic microsuede comforter at Younkers (fake suede twice in one post; is that even legal?) and almost passed out from excitement when I discovered the largest yarn store I’d ever seen in my life. I spent $100 on yarn, which was totally fine considering it would’ve easily cost me twice that much here. In case you were wondering, this is what $100 worth of yarn looks like.

We went to the U.P.’s favorite indoor amusement park, Putt n’ Batt, and got our minigolf on. Now, I usually suck pretty badly at minigolf. I understand the principles just like pool, but I lose something in the execution. This time I did even worse than usual, but I did manage to score a bullseye on hole 18 and set off the cacophony of bell-ringing and free-game-winning. I rule. After that, we spent a lot of time in the batting cages (I can hit fast balls! 56mph! I’m so proud. Also, it hurts.) and playing skee-ball and basketball and air hockey and my favorite game, clay-shooting. I like it because I have about 98% accuracy and can get the machine to vomit tickets all over my feet. Then we take the tickets up to the bemused lady behind the counter and spend 15 minutes picking out prizes with just as much consideration and seriousness as we did when we were 6 years old.

Friday night, the Milwaukee branch of la familia arrived, with dude, dude, and dude. Dude stayed home because she had to work. Also, the dude who’s my kid-penpal was totally psyched about being my kid-penpal. It was way cute. Apparently owning lots of Hello Kitty stationery scores you big points with the younger crowd. Saturday morning, the dudes scoured the house in search of things to photograph and video with my phone. I have about 8 movies of the folks sitting around the breakfast table in their robes, and lots of photos of the cat.

We drove back Saturday and discovered the snow we’d been missing here in Minnesota all this time. It arrived while we were out.

ITEM SIX: in conclusion.
I spent today being confused about whether I should put stuff away or just toss it all in boxes since I’ll be moving in a few days. I opted for boxes. Most of my possessions are in Eagan, some of them are in boxes downstairs in my house, and some of them are already in my trunk. So I think you can assume from that I’ll be a little more scattered than usual, if that’s even possible. I’ll try to keep you up to date, yes I will.

If there’s a theme to this week, it’s starting over.

And to all a good night.
Jenni
