nobody is ever as excited about tofurky as i am.

SO.

1. Let me talk some more about the 3day, yes?

Our team is up to six people now, and has a goal of raising $15,000 (we’re currently 1/30 of the way there, and #1 on the team list). That’s amazing. We’re going to be having a fundraising party soon, so watch this space, hear? Also, if you don’t really feel like donating money but would like to supply some nice prizes to be used in a fundraising raffle, please to let us know. And thank you.

2. What’s awesome? Someone pulling you aside to tell you they’re really glad they got to know you.

3. I found out yesterday that my old boss passed away a couple days ago, of complications related to lung cancer. He was a good manager and a great guy. I guess I’ll be reuniting with many of my old Orion coworkers this Sunday at the funeral. Sad.

4. This weekend, I was poking around and found out that the book I was interviewed for is available for pre-order on Amazon. I haven’t the slightest clue whether my chapter made it in there or not. I’m surprised it’s, like, for real. 404lab has been mentioned in four books so far (that I’m aware of, at least), but I’ve never had something with my name and words in it. That’s exciting.

4a. My sister: ‘You like having your name on things? Nooooooo!’

Dammit.

5. Yesterday, our office moved to downtown Minneapolis. Who is totally thrilled about this move? Me, that’s who. I got contract parking at the Depot, otherwise known as the place we go ice-skating in the winter. The Dunn Brothers around the corner has Tofurky sammiches. I have a real cubelike desk, instead of a rickety workstation. I’m not sitting 2 feet away from Jane. Not that I don’t like Jane, it was just really close quarters with the three of us in there.

Here’s a picture of our old office, and of Jane’s butt in Pam’s old office in Maplewoodburyvilletown. Here’s my new desk (I have a phone now, sigh), and the awesome stairwell that makes me kinda dizzy. I’m a total nerd for being excited about taking 7 flights of stairs every day, I know. But it’s like free exercise.

The running joke is how I might actually bring some personal stuff to work now. Today I took the big step of bringing in my favorite magnet and putting it on my overhead bin. Whew… that gave me the shakes. I’m going to get that plant, too, but I can’t move too quick or it might put them into shock. We get awesome light in here, and I have a view of rooftops and cars and people; there’s actually life going on out there. I missed it a lot.

But yeah, I’ll probably miss working down the road from the prison. Who wouldn’t?

6. Oh, two more photos with my new camera: rafters and Kodos.

7. Last night, I did make it out to the parents’. I dropped Chico at the Chico-repair-shop, because his rear brakes just all of a sudden started grinding at a deafening volume. I suppose it’s possible they’d been doing that for some time, and I just didn’t hear them over the radio. I figured the rotors would be shot, but no! They turned the rotors and installed new pads and he’s practically brand-new. Well, after I get a car wash and drop him off at Lamettry’s next week so they can repair his butt. THEN there will be no way to distingish him from a totally brand-new vehicle. One with 115,000 miles on it, that is.

Anyway, the parents! They make such a huge deal about me visiting now, it’s embarrassing. My dad took us out to dinner (where I saw someone I really didn’t want to see, and had to hide out as much as one can hide while dining with one’s family). I helped put up siding under the new porch eaves. Then I helped him figure out collaboration on the genealogy program he and my mom have been obsessing over for years. He gets so caught up in the details, I finally had to tell him to ignore all the files he was seeing, stop trying to delete things, and just click on this icon I put on the desktop: it looks like a tree (for ‘family tree’, get it?) and is named MOM AND DAD CLICK HERE.

If they manage to mess that up somehow, I’m giving up on family tech-support.

Also, my mom thanked me for helping them by buying me a Sonicare toothbrush. It’s mostly because she’s been fixated on the miracle of Sonicare toothbrushes for years, and it really bothers her that I didn’t want one. So now I have one, I guess. I just wish it could floss for me, too.

8. I have a really busy weekend coming up, starting in about two hours. I was starting to freak a little until my horoscope said this: There’s a lot going on, but if you calculate correctly, it’ll all fit into your day. WELL OK THEN!! It’s totally fine.

Next week, amigos mios. See you then!
Jenni
