Look!

tastes good, does good.

We done good!! Team Boobylicious raised almost $2,000 with the Valentine’s truffle fundraiser. Therefore, it’s time for shout-outs!

  • To Shirliana, for letting us use her kitchen. There was chocolate everywhere. All over the counters, the floors, and smeared on the front of the refrigerator. I’d have had an aneurysm from the mess, but she was very calm about it.

  • To Chris, for coming up with the truffle idea and recipe and devoting much of his life to this fundraiser in the last few weeks. Not to mention being 2nd in sales, and he’s not even doing the walk. That’s awesome.

  • To Wendy, because she’s the best co-captain ever, and manages to be diplomatic when I can’t.

  • To Jane, for coming up with great packaging plans at the last minute, and being the best ball-handler we had. Hahaha.

  • To everybody who ordered. Almost two thousand bucks, dudes. You’re fantastic.

Wendy and I are going to do deliveries together tonight, which should be hysterical. I’m hoping to finish them all, because the rest of my week is pretty much claimed already. If you ordered and haven’t heard from me yet, you should probably let me know.

I’m trying to expedite commitment to the next fundraiser, the bowling event. We’re going to be needing raffle prizes for that, so if you know of anyone who could generously donate nice things and raise money for charity, here’s yet another thing you should let me know. Ok? Ok. I’ll stop taking about the 3day for a few minutes now.

I had some very amusing entertainment the rest of the weekend, but let’s not go into that here. Last night I waited til everyone was distracted by the Superbowl and went to the laundromat. While I read chapter 4 of my VB.NET book, I was listening to the weird lady next to me humming scales (she was either a professional opera singer or a professional nutcase, and at my laundromat, odds are on the latter), and the EXTREMELY LOUD Mexican sitcom on TV. These things have now all blended together in my head, so I think I’m going to be one seriously fucked-up programmer. I went home and read chapter 5 in the bath. I am now fully versed in the basics of exception handling, the FV function, and Enum. You are very excited for me, I can tell!

This morning, I got up at the tail-end of nighttime and had a coffee-meeting with Edward, my accountant (*snicker*). I got there a little early and saw a dude sitting at a table, looking kind of accountantlike. I asked, “You’re not Ed, are you?” He said no, paused for a second, and said, “So I take it you’re meeting Ed?” Then I felt all weird about it, as if I was having an early-Monday-morning blind date at Caribou, and that I should offer to have coffee with that guy if Edward stood me up. Thankfully, he showed up right then, and I am now 1400% more relaxed about my taxes.

He explained how to most effectively use my high-deductible health insurance with bonus HSA plan to my best advantage (it’s basically like a 401k for medical expenses; you can use it now, but save most of it for later), what I can and can’t deduct based on the type of income I receive, and why it’s actually to my advantage to be a W-2 contractor now instead of 1099. He’s going to figure out how much of last year’s various IRA contributions are deductible, and tell me where I should put that money this year. I’m in (platonic married CPA) love with Edward. This also allows me to continue my recent finance-replanning, which involves exciting things like closing accounts, opening accounts, reviewing credit scores like an obsessive freak, changing insurance companies, and reallocating funds all over the place. Honestly, that stuff excites me a lot.

I totally forgot the last thing I was going to tell you today. Hmm. Well, shit. Go look at some pictures from this weekend, then. Someday I’ll actually redesign and integrate them into this site or something. There’s a thought.

Feliz Lunes!

Let’s see some knitting, sister!

Sigh.

I haven’t had much time to knit in, like, forever. But I did do significant work on a ribbed (for my pleasure) scarf while I was going to-and-fro on airplanes. It’s this deep red chenille and it feels awesome. I will try to get photos soonly, even though chenille photographs like crap and then you will think I’m lying to you about its fabulousness.

Want to see what I’m doing for the Knitting Olympics? PIRATE MITTENS (check out the hat, too). I’ve heard they may be too easy for this challenge, but I haven’t a clue what to expect with fair isle, since I haven’t done it before. Also, I’ll be lucky to come up with 10 hours of knitting time in that 16-day period of time. Seriously, it’s insane.

I have quite a bit of assembly work to do on three or four sweaters. I should really really get those done, huh? Yeah.

P.S. You chicas (and boys, I guess) should tell me if you’re doing the Knitting Olympics, too. They have more people signed up for it than are participating in the actual Olympics.
