catching up… 4

Some quick updates before I rush home and… you know, do stuff. Lots of it.

1) Our wedding invitations went out Monday. I was so excited about the result, considered I had printed on this press exactly once before, for about 20 minutes at MCBA. It went well, and while they’re not perfect, that’s kind of the point with letterpress. No question that everything you turn out on there is handmade and probably took a hell of a long time. Also, I forced Matt and Judy to work in my wedding sweatshop on Saturday:

2) I’m close to finishing Bermuda photos, but having trouble finding the time to work on them with everything else that’s going on. Next up: the travel journal.

3) I bought three plane tickets within the last week. I’m kind of surprised American Express didn’t call me in a panic (on second thought, that’s probably not the least bit surprising to them). Because of Matt’s crazy work-seminar schedule, and my wish to accompany him as long as airfare is reasonable, we’re going to LA the weekend after we get back from Key West (i.e. two weeks post-wedding), then to Philadelphia (and Atlantic City, hell yes) the next weekend. Boston will be the first weekend in November, during which time I plan to visit states #49 and #50. Exciting!!

4) I’ll be getting my first payment for writing about .NET on InfoQ shortly. Reference item #3 to see where that’s going.

5) We got a fancy new grill and a new patio table! We can enjoy meals in the great outdoors once again.

6) Matt’s parents stayed with us last weekend, and we had a great time. Matt also became the proud owner of some farmland in South Dakota. You know how I feel about farmland, but apparently we don’t have to go visit it, so that lessens my chance of being murdered in the middle of nowhere.

7) Missy, Wendy, and Stephanie hosted a wedding shower for us on Sunday! It was insanely hot and humid, but everyone had a fantastic time regardless. There was grilling, a CD that Wendy made for everyone, a pinata, and my mom gave us underthings made of candy. Ok, that part was a little uncomfortable.

8) My boss announced the plans for our first annual summer party on August 19: everyone is supposed to make their own hole as part of an office-wide minigolf course. We’ll set up at noon, play the course at 1pm (guests are invited, of course), and there will be prizes awarded for the best golf hole. (Matt and I are going to win it, obviously. Well, as long as we can figure out how to make our great plans reality.) At 7, she’s taking us to the Twins game. We have club level tickets and $40 each to spend on food and drinks. Have I mentioned that my job is awesome?

9) I finished a HUGE project at work last week. It’s nice to have a lull in the busy-ness for a while before the testers break everything.

10) We have a wedding shower at Matt’s work tomorrow. How cute is that?

Isn’t InfoQ awesome? Boring Guy had car problems on Monday post-dentist, so he didn’t go into work. We ended up writing enough articles/news posts in one day to meet our monthly goal. Not that we’re stopping there.

I am very jealous of your travel schedule, though I am looking forward to our Christmas trip to Yosemite (SHHH, don’t tell Boring Guy, it’s his birthday surprise). And his mom is taking us to Ireland next year sometime!

yes!! occasionally i have an “OH CRAP i have to write something” moment, but mostly it’s awesome. and i get really excited about some of the stuff i’m covering. i’m a little jealous that you’re caught up a month in advance… i’m thinking of going to 2 news items a week, but only after the wedding.

      that’s fantastic!
