letterpress drama = 1890s first world problems

We’re back from California! Look out your window, then look at this and understand why it wasn’t that exciting to come home.

We managed to cover a lot of ground, eat some really excellent food, and enjoy cocktails with some great people. I will cover all of that in my travel journal, of course, so right now I’ll just give you the link to the photos. Also, allow me to HIGHLY recommend the Venice Freakshow (and all of Venice, really), because it might be the best $5 you ever spend.

My recent travels have left me with enough frequent flier miles to hopefully put a substantial dent in our honeymoon airfare (or give us upgrades? I need to research that, because it’s apparently not easy at all). Also, my LAX flights with Delta were beyond pleasant: on time, good seatmates, and all-around efficient. The downside is that probably means our next flight will crash or something. I suppose you have to go sometime.

Last night was bowling, where we soundly beat Wendy’s team. (Well, we took 5 of 7 points. I just wanted to say that we beat them.) Tonight I’m going to happy hour with Matt until Ryan shows up and kicks me out so they can have Draft Party Talk. After that, I’m going to go try to get the rest of the stuff I need for the early garden planning, because then I can stake everything out, plant lettuce and carrots, and prep the potato bins. Last year I had planted 3 weeks prior to this, but the weather has been a total lately. Maybe it’ll cut us a break and still be 80 in October.

I’ve been trying to get my press up and running, too! I got my replacement Boxcar base (best customer service ever, by the way), so I have everything I need for testing with a polymer plate. I’m still waiting on tympan paper and a few other details, but I have enough to be functional now, I think. (Once I get the trucks off the rollers, that is.) The main problem, however, is I still don’t have a table for holding that 200-pound monster. My parents have one I can take, but between our schedule and theirs, it’ll be a miracle if I see them before June. I really want to get to the point of testing, because I really have no idea til then whether it’s even fully functional! That makes me a little stressed out at the prospect of wedding-invite printing.

And now it’s time to go, but don’t forget that tomorrow is Dining Out for Life! We plan to make it a double-charity day.
