I’m basing that on all the food photos I took.

We got rhubarb and strawberries at the farmers market, so I took advantage of that and baked rhubarb-almond bread (based on this awesome recipe) and strawberry-rhubarb crumble with bourbon butter. I still have 2 giant stalks of rhubarb left, though. Ideas for its use? Preferably something not sweet so I can have some, too.

We also got our homemade mole out of the freezer and grilled like crazy. SO GOOD. I get those tortillas from the Singhs at the farmer’s market, too!
Yesterday, in addition to all the baking, we made mofongo. What I didn’t realize is that all you have to do is make tostones (i.e. fried, then smashed, then refried plantains), then mash them up with garlic and salt. The end result is way better than potatoes, and the mojo flavor reminds me so much of Puerto Rico that it hurts. Matt made a giant pot of veggies and black beans to go on top. It was fantastic.
Things this weekend that did not involve food at all: Friday, we went to have a drink at B.A.N.K. Even though the place was pretty empty, their service was so terrible that I don’t really plan to return. Sad, because their menu is awesome. We met Dan and Kate for a cocktail at Prohibition, then we all went over to Town Talk to end the night.
Saturday, we met Kris and Orsi in St Paul to celebrate Orsi’s birthday. We had dinner at Senor Wong, then introduced them to the wonder that is the Hat Trick. Afterward, Matt and I headed back to Minneapolis to hang out at Bradstreet for a while.
On the way there, we were almost cut off by the Bang Bus. I’m not linking to it lest I have to drown in spam, but if you don’t know what that is, please don’t Google it at work. Sayin’.
Also on Saturday, we held our first sweep team meeting at the 3-Day Expo in Bloomington. I’m so excited for this year’s event! It’s going to be great. And, hey, did I mention our awesome bowling fundraiser in a couple weeks??
Whenever you mention it, I really want to try Senor Wong’s. It sounds so wrong and right all at once.
that’s exactly correct about it. it’s pretty great!
