It forgot to be fall this weekend, so we decided to take advantage. We packed up the picnic basket and drove to
Frontenac State Park, about 10 miles south of Red Wing.
We took a trail from the top of the bluff all the way down to the shore of Lake Pepin (for those not from around here, it’s part of the Mississippi River). Once we were down near the bottom, it occurred to us that we’d probably have to climb back up, too. So we did, and the fact that we’re still alive now is nothing less than a miracle. Holy crap.
Post-climbing, we had a picnic and laid around near an outdoor wedding, then did some more hiking and walked back through the campground to see what it was like (far too crowded-together). On the way out, I had to stop at the ranger station to buy some Minnesota State Parks Battery-Powered Glowsticks. How could I not?
We went to Red Wing and wandered around the Pottery Place mall, spending much time ogling the vintage barware at the giant antique store there. My mom would be proud. We then had dinner on the veranda at the St James Hotel, overlooking the river.
Upon returning to Minneapolis, we had to shower three times to get the hiking stank off, and then proceeded to Lyle’s with Wendy and Cindi. Once happy hour ended, we walked to Rudolphs, whose happy hour picks up where Lyle’s leaves off. We ran into Ben from Town Talk, and I learned that I’m not alone in my dislike of a certain person who works there. Man.
This morning, I couldn’t figure out what all the yelling was about, and then we realized that the Twin Cities Marathon was going past Matt’s apartment. We balanced out their early-Sunday energy by sleeping some more.
And now, since my pumpkin cheesecake is almost done baking and I still have to figure out how to stabilize whipped cream, I shall depart until tomorrow. See you then!
