So, Easter weekend. It was fantastic.
Matt’s parents arrived Saturday morning. We did some grocery shopping, then went to Kohls and Bachman’s. I got seeds and other garden materials, included 160 pounds of manure, though I’d prefer to think of it as ‘compost’.
Using the garden claw, I tilled up the entire vegetable garden and pulled the weeds while Matt and his Dad helped, and also raked the yard. It was a lot of work, and left bruises on my palms, but it was totally worth it. We dumped in the compost and some sand from the fire pit, and leveled everything out. Our garden was ready to go.
We went downtown around dinnertime, intending to take them to Bradstreet for a cocktail, but were stopped short by Fashion Week (whatever). We went to O’Donovan’s instead, then headed to Bali for dinner. I had fake chicken satay and tofu, both of which were mindblowingly good. The drinks are like better versions of those at the Dragon. We’ll be going back.
Afterwards, we took them to David Fong’s. Someone put the Cupid Shuffle on the jukebox not once but twice (I swear it wasn’t us), so Matt and I had to dance. Doran joined us, Matt’s parents left, and we went over to Shantytown. Our bartender was a man with eight fingers who told us dirty jokes. That place is awesome.
Sunday, I baked hot cross buns for Easter, then planted spinach and carrots in the garden. We hung lights around the yard (we need about 50 more feet to extend them the length of the fence). My brother and sister came over for dinner, and we grilled. After dinner, we went outside and had a toast. We ended the night with dominoes, because we’re just that wholesome.
This week, we’ve celebrated Missy’s birthday with happy hour at the Gnome, had my car’s snow tires swapped out, walked across south Minneapolis, grilled on the patio, and got to go sit in the Club Cambria suite at the Timberwolves game, courtesy of David. Hell of a way to end a crappy basketball season.
And now I must go do some things. Hey, it’s practically weekend!
