This morning, I threw my brown suede Adidas in the trash. It was a sad parting, because they’d been a lot of places with me.
My shoes had been tied up in a plastic Target back since our return from the cruise. I wore them in Mexico to ride ATVs; I didn’t realize we’d be riding in rivers of mud or be totally soaked by the time we were done (not that I’m complaining – it was the greatest thing ever). So I washed them in the shower and tried to dry them on the balcony, then with the hair dryer in the cabin, but they were still wet. So I placed them in my carryon, planning to put them on in subzero Minneapolis, and wore flipflops home.
Each time I opened my bag, I noticed a distinctive odor developing. By the time we were in Memphis, I was telling Matt and Wendy to back away whenever I had to unzip it. I was transporting the scent of Mexican jungle back to Minneapolis, and there was no way in hell I’d be able to put those shoes on in the airport. I’m surprised they didn’t raise the alert level to red.
So I was hoping maybe I’d be able to wash them again or something, but the longer they sat there in the bag, the less intelligent that seemed. I’m pretty sure I’d have opened it and released a tropical disease. I’ll be going shoe-shopping tomorrow.
I’ve been slowly making my way through my photos, and you can view them as they appear here. As of right now, I’ve reached about 2pm in Key West, which is less than 24 hours into the cruise. This may take a while!
Last night, we had a date. You know what’s awesome? Dates. I get all squirmy with cute thinking about it. We have the best time ever, me and my boy. Tonight is a Timberwolves game; while we have no illusions about them beating the Suns, we do get to see Steve Nash, and that is awesome.
Buon giorno, amici!
