There’s something new in the garden every single day.
baby tomato!

The spinach has bolted, so I finally gave in and pulled all the plants. It took almost an hour to clean it all, dry it, and package it in the freezer. I kept some out so we can hopefully make pizza on the grill soon, too.
I harvested about half the beets, cut them up, and we grilled them in a packet with walnuts and balsamic vinegar. Both of us were turned off by canned beets as kids, so I’m happy to be able to prove that beets are, in fact, awesome. I wish I’d planted more, because there are only about 6 plants left!
I’m keeping detailed notes (because I’m a huge nerd): when I planted things, when they’re ready for harvest, what I want more of next year. And I already want more space for it, which I guess means I’ll just have to be creative. Something tells me our landlord isn’t going to love it if the yard turns into a farm.
After dinner on the patio, we watched Chess on PBS. I still totally remember all the words.
Awesome! My tomato plants in the planter I built are growing like crazy. If you’re looking for more space next year, you could totally build a couple of these relatively inexpensively. You can grow tomatoes or corn in them (and probably other larger plants).
If you’re interested, I can even help you build them, they only take about an hour. The parts are relatively cheap.

yeah, i’m definitely interested in those! i’m having a hard time keeping one of the plants watered, and freeing up more space would be really good.
My garden is doing well, but it’s still wayyyyy behind. I’m pretty thrilled that I could put in some watermelon seedlings today, however.
that’s awesome! i’d like to try watermelons next year if i can find the space. pumpkins would be good, too. i suspect your plants will catch up, what with the weather alternating between rain and sunny every day!
