It was then it was time to get in some nature before the party began. We headed west, to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and decided to do some hiking. Since we hadn&#8217;t really planned on hiking, none of us were prepared; we had no water, and I was wearing flipflops. It wasn&#8217;t easy. We got to the top and all had to rest for a while. It was hot and dry, and we were thankful for the warm outdoor drinking fountain.<\/p>\n<p>Further west, we passed the Home on the Range for Wayward Boys:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1107\/695338927_6263ec7a4c.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" border=\"1\" height=\"375\" width=\"500\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then we drove to the Montana border, since neither Wendy nor Jumi had been there before.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1396\/695340401_0ef8400cec.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" border=\"1\" height=\"375\" width=\"500\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n<em>matt in montana, while we were in north dakota <\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"> <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1139\/695340997_fcbae55b7a.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" border=\"1\" height=\"375\" width=\"500\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n<em>we took turns riding in the trunk<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We then turned around and headed to the Medora exit, to see the cute little town Cindi had been telling us about. It was full-on western. We had lunch at the Cowboy Cafe, because they served buffalo. We also had beers at the Iron Horse Pub, and sat out on the patio in the glorious weather. Well, I laid on the bench there. They didn&#8217;t seem to mind. It was perfect.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1417\/696211376_71e9a94476.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" border=\"1\" height=\"500\" width=\"375\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Late in the afternoon, it was time to head back to Dickinson. We took a spin through another part of the park first, to see the prairie dog villages (note: Jumi is <em>scared <\/em>of prairie dogs!) and look for buffalo. We didn&#8217;t see any (presumably because they&#8217;d eaten them all at the Cowboy Cafe), but we did see a very, very excited male horse. We couldn&#8217;t stop talking about it.<\/p>\n<p>Back in Dickinson, it was rodeo time. I&#8217;d never been to a rodeo before, so I had no clue what to expect.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1397\/696213876_66de1c80f2.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" border=\"1\" height=\"500\" width=\"375\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n<em>cowboy with a cellphone<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We got our programs and started putting money on the riders, though none of us actually ended up settling our bets afterward. Matt opened his program and said, &#8220;hey, mine&#8217;s signed already!&#8221; Deb got very excited, because apparently that meant he won something. When they did drawings later, his prize was revealed: a championship belt buckle. SO AWESOME.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1090\/695348517_e5e9d3fc7c.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" border=\"1\" height=\"375\" width=\"500\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n<em>calf roping<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"> <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1124\/695350543_c142b296b6.jpg?resize=399%2C500\" border=\"1\" height=\"500\" width=\"399\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n<em>this kid spent half the rodeo glaring at us. he was hysterical. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m glad I got to see the rodeo, but I&#8217;m glad I don&#8217;t have to go see one again. I kind of felt bad for the animals, especially the calves for roping.<\/p>\n<p>We went to dinner with Cin&#8217;s parents at the Crunchy Kitten, where Terry couldn&#8217;t stop giggling over double-entendres. Afterward, we headed downtown (sans parents) to Uncle Ron&#8217;s Spur Bar, where crappy karaoke was in full swing.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1092\/696217556_f82e7265fb.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" border=\"1\" height=\"500\" width=\"375\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n<em> wendy&#8217;s $3 beer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We were kind of bored with the place, so we decided to go to Army&#8217;s West instead. That may have been a mistake on a few levels.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1342\/695352003_f85e54d53e.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" border=\"1\" height=\"500\" width=\"375\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>1) a girl told Jumi they didn&#8217;t play much hip-hop there (presumably because she&#8217;s black)<br \/>\n2) they had long islands in pitchers that they just served with a bunch of straws<br \/>\n3) there was a crazy lesbian (presumably on meth) on the dance floor that scared everyone<br \/>\n4) they played the &#8216;Numa Numa&#8217; song (which is the reason we decided to finally leave)<br \/>\n5) lots of potential date-rape action going on with the dancing.<\/p>\n<p>ICK. However, we rocked the naked lady matching game.
