It&#8217;s not very far, but it&#8217;s a small two-lane highway through the mountains. It&#8217;s very cute, and is full of art galleries. I wandered in and out of shops, then decided to check out the Kit Carson museum. I was the only one in the place, and felt bad for the ladies working there. They were <em>very <\/em>enthusiastic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/79\/236387627_0995fb6de2.jpg?resize=344%2C500\" border=\"1\" height=\"500\" width=\"344\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n<em>kit carson<\/em>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/98\/236391260_185a6e31f5.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" border=\"1\" height=\"500\" width=\"375\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Just south of Taos, in Ranchos de Taos, is the Mission San Francisco de Asis. It was one of Georgia O&#8217;Keefe&#8217;s favorite subjects.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"> <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/89\/236393759_e88615e69e.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" border=\"1\" height=\"500\" width=\"375\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n<em>mission san francisco de asis <\/em>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/84\/236395886_24308a44df.jpg?resize=500%2C372\" border=\"1\" height=\"372\" width=\"500\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I took the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmtourism.org\/place\/loc\/bymap\/page\/DB-place\/category\/158\/place\/639.html\" target=\"_blank\">high road<\/a> back toward Santa Fe. The northern portion of it goes through Carson National Forest, and it&#8217;s beautiful. I came upon the town of Las Trampas and found the Mission San Jose de Gracia. It&#8217;s under renovation, and all the workers there were really friendly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/84\/236400855_c3928730a5.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" border=\"1\" height=\"375\" width=\"500\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n<em>adobe<\/em>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"> <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/48\/236402561_9a0cad030b.jpg?resize=407%2C500\" border=\"1\" height=\"500\" width=\"407\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A giant storm hit just as I was leaving Las Trampas, and I thought the hail was going to shatter the windshield. I&#8217;m not sure I&#8217;d have minded too much in Cracker, except for my stuff getting soaked.<\/p>\n<p>I came upon Truchas, a tiny artist village in the mountains. I thought I was going to drive off the edge of a cliff, the roads are so narrow. I may never be the same.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/92\/236426025_94ad32a8c9.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" border=\"1\" height=\"500\" width=\"375\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><br \/>\n<em>mini chapel at el santuario de chimayo <\/em>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/85\/236434120_7c40317fbd.jpg?resize=500%2C367\" border=\"1\" height=\"367\" width=\"500\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Santuario de Chimayo is one of those places that fascinates and terrifies me at the same time. <a href=\"http:\/\/chimayo.org\/history.html\" target=\"_blank\">According to legend<\/a>, it is the home of healing dirt; those who take it with them will be cured. People leave mementos of their family and friends, asking for them to be cured. I sat on the second-story balcony with a margarita, overlooking the Plaza.
