Revisiting our plans from my last post<\/a> ever so long ago: We booked tickets to New Orleans in May, and Steve and Colleen will likely be accompanying us. (It’s possible I actually cheered out loud when they said they’d go.) Hawaii and Jamaica are pretty much a given barring any major catastrophe, so I feel like I’m well on my way to leaving the frozen tundra someday! I hope Delta doesn’t go out of business without us.<\/p>\n

The second half of September has been enjoyably relaxed, and until two days ago, it was also really nice outside. I won’t bore you with the details about my exciting-only-to-me accomplishments at work and around the house, but it’s been pretty great lately. Also, last night was the third edition of our trivia night at Pour Decisions, and we had the biggest crowd yet! Matt’s such an awesome host.<\/p>\n

My grandparents’ house in the U.P. finally sold, thankfully to a local woman who my parents like a lot. Someday I’m sure I won’t cry every time I think about it, but I’m not even close to that yet.<\/p>\n

So instead, I’ll think about vacation! We’re flying with the in-laws to Ft Lauderdale tomorrow, spending the night, and then driving down the Keys. We have two nights on the beach in Marathon, three in a hotel across the street from Hemingway’s house in Key West, and then another night in Ft Lauderdale. Matt’s parents haven’t flown in 15 years, so that’s going to be hilarious. (Be assured that they’re bringing along a bottle of brandy, because it’s apparently hard to find E&J in Florida.)<\/p>\n

This keeps making me angry, though: here’s an incredible place in the Keys that nobody can visit thanks to a bunch of Republicans who hate poor people.<\/p>\n

As far as I can tell, though, the only big impact of the government shutdown is that FAA safety inspectors are furloughed and won’t detect a missing engine in our airplane or something. So let’s just keep our fingers crossed on that topic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
