I will hopefully have some time to work on it next week. I posted this on LJ already, but here again is my current favorite photo from the trip. It’s the Loreto in Prague.

And speaking of photos, here are a few more:

the cattle in repose
the cattle in repose ON ME
one of my favorite things ever!!

As you may know, I buy Christmas ornaments for my tree as souvenirs. This year, I added two new ones from Hawaii, a couple from Prague, and even one from the NRA Museum in Virginia. HOT.

Since I’ve been back, I’ve been distributing souvenirs to people and trying to adjust my sleep again. It’s going pretty well, but I still start to get tired around 3pm, and I’m hyper in the morning at work. It’s nothing like the painful jet lag I had after Hawaii, though. I think the direction of your travel, i.e. whether you’re gaining or losing time, has a lot to do with it.

Last night, Kaye and my sister and I went to see Rent. I don’t know if I should be proud or appalled that I remember every single word of that musical. I cried for half of it. I have yet to see Walk the Line, which is killing me. This week, I swear.

I’m dying to submit my boarding passes to get credit for my frequent flyer miles. I’ll have enough for my flight to Alaska this summer. I feel like I should book it immediately before they raise the reward levels again (or go out of business, knowing Northwest Airlines). But we probably won’t go til June or July, so I’ll have to wait. In between, Stephanie and I are discussing going back to Europe in February or March. Possibly Italy or Greece. Nice!

Before I left for vacation, Lou and I were discussing the fact that 404lab.com gets between 2-4,000 unique visitors a day. The Wikipedia listing has bumped those numbers up at least 500 a day, so SCORE. Anyway, he wondered why I wasn’t trying to make money with advertising on it.

I never thought that web advertising really worked, apart from on the huge sites. I didn’t want to put much effort into it, either, nor did I want to make promises to advertisers. So just for the mom-proverbial shits and giggles, I signed up for Google Adsense and slapped a banner on there. Whatever fit, you know? It was easy.

Well, color me stupid. Those profits are going to fund my travel from now on. Holy shit, dude! I had no idea. I’m not excited about paying taxes on it, dammit. But, hey! FREE MONEY!!

OK, I need to go get me some coffee. Seeing you later, fo’ sho.
Jenni

your questions, answered

q:
What exactly does drive you to share so much of your life with us? Seriously.

You might just as well ask me why I come here everyday to read about it, but no fair — I asked first. :-)

a:
I think you’d be surprised how much of my life I don’t share, but honestly that’s more a matter of lack of time to write it all, than inhibition. I don’t really have a lot I feel it’s necessary to hide, but I keep some things to myself either out of discretion or respect for other people.

90% of the reason I keep this journal is for myself. Honestly, it’s the most substantial record I have of my life. It serves to boost my memory, which is kind of scattered. When I read back through the history here, what’s more important to me is not just what I was doing at the time, but what I was feeling. I always remember what I was thinking at the time, because of what I wasn’t saying. Most notably, there’s a several-month period of my life where I sounded pretty happy, but I wasn’t at all. It’s good to look back at that and see what an infinitely better place I’m in now.

The remaining 10% of the reasons why I do this are varied:
– Your entertainment
– My entertainment
– Writing practice
– I get words and stories stuck in my head, and it’s a relief letting them out
– To keep faraway friends and acquaintances updated
– To have something to tell my mom to avoid

As far as why you keep reading, I’d like to know that, too. ;)

ask a question

Why, HELLO THERE.
