This reminds me that I will be on a beach very very soon!! No, I’m not gloating.

So, let’s see where we left off. Last week, I was in crazy-cleaning mode. I finished the closet-emptying and reorganizing, and ended up with a whole pile of stuff I no longer needed, not to mention a few empty shelves and drawers. It’s funny how much you can accumulate in a year. The original plan was to set it aside for a garage sale, but I had nowhere to store it. Then I thought I would donate it. Then I realized that maybe people I knew might like it and want to give it a good home.

So I asked them. I took photos of everything and posted it all on LJ. Everything was free, they just had to come pick it up. I had about 15 large items, and a pile of books. The stuff was claimed within half an hour. I couldn’t believe it. So since then, people have been stopping over to get their things. They seem really into it, and I’m excited that they’ll enjoy the stuff.

Friday night, Chris and I went to Blue Nile for awesome Ethiopian food. I love that place, and it’s kind of weird that it’s so huge and almost always empty. We had the sampler that’s served on a gigantic piece of injera, the flatbread that’s kind of like a thin, spongy pancake. There’s something about Middle Eastern and African food that’s really satisfying in a communal sense… you just put a big variety of spreads and fillings in the center of a table, and everybody grabs a piece of flatbread and eats. I love it. Of course, we now want to make Ethiopian food.

Also, I’ve been wanting one of those low tables where people sit on pillows or little stools around it. I’m kind of tired of eating dinner on the couch or floor and having Chloe stomping all over you (not that she wouldn’t try to with a low table, but still). Our server said that his mom has one like that, and told us we could find them at the Somali market in St Paul.

We went to see In Cold Blood at the Uptown afterward. Holy crap, that’s a depressing movie. It wasn’t really very dated, either, except for their high-tech forensic techniques (‘Look what showed up on this photo when we took it with a flash!!!’) It ends with the murderers being hanged; you see the second guy drop from the gallows, him hanging there for a second, and then the movie is over. No credits or anything. It’s jarring.

Saturday, I was doing house things and finishing up my apartment work. I went and bought a truckload of vegetables and made the largest pot of chili ever. My sister and I tried to go see Munich, but it was sold out, because nobody can think of anything to do this time of year when it’s so damn gloomy outside. I printed a million vacation photos, then got to work on the thing I’d been putting off forever due to pure suckiness: rebuilding my old server. It had been dead of a virus, so I gave it to Bertine to take the good stuff out, then took the box back to do two things:

Store my backups

Be in charge of the internet and wireless so I don’t have this stupid black cable running across my apartment floor.

I don’t think that’s asking too much, do you? No. But the server seems to think otherwise.

First, one of the NICs appears to be dead. The shortened technical explanation for the implications of this is as follows: that sucks. I can’t set it up the way it used to work. Also, the wireless router is being a bitch (also a technical term). I have scrapped the server-resurrection plan for now, as it hurts my former-network-admin pride. I don’t remember anything anymore, and dislike putting a lot of effort into something that’s supposed to just do its thing and be dumb.

Anyway! By Saturday evening, I was immensely irritated about being in my house for a few consecutive hours, so I started pestering Kaye. She happened to be up the street at Mollie’s, so I walked up there. I hung out with them for a while and walked back home around midnight. It got about 500% colder while I was there, and wearing open-backed shoes all of a sudden became a really terrible idea.

Sunday, Chris and I went to the Somali market, except it had disappeared. We ended up touring St Paul (the cheddar and bourbon twin), then Minneapolis. We went to Ax-Man, a halal market (which had injera! yay!), Whole Foods, then another grocery. He made little pizzas again, and then we were lazy. In fact, it was a pretty lazy weekend in general. And you know what? I don’t get enough of lazy. It’s about time.

In other news, Team Boobylicious is working on its next couple of fundraisers. The current plan is to do truffles for Valentine’s Day, which I’m sure you’ll be hearing about soon. Also, I have asked the catholic-bowling people to donate their space for a fundraiser sometime this spring. Who wouldn’t go bowling for boobies? Nobody, that’s who.

Til we meet again,
Jenni

P.S. Now that my tattoo is healed, here is a marginally better photo.
