This seems like an excellent time to do it, while I’m attempting to not get sandwich crumbs all up in my keyboard.

Christmas in Watertown was great, as usual. We played games, took a daily walk around town, watched sports, listened to Christmas music constantly, had about seven meals a day, made the usual rounds of Shopko and the mall, and I got a ton of knitting done. The best part was that it was totally relaxing, and I needed that. Until the day we left, when I woke up with Matt’s cold, and my dad called to tell me my great-aunt had passed away.

She had been sick for a very long time, and had decided to go into hospice care recently, so it wasn’t a surprise. That doesn’t make it any less sad, though. She was the last member of my grandparents’ generation, and the only remaining tie to Menominee, Michigan, which was a big part of my life for so many years.

Between that and my cold, I exhausted at least half the world’s supply of Kleenex. I worked from home Thursday, and by Friday was already getting better. We headed to my parents’ for family Christmas that evening, and it was really fun. My mom cried over almost all of her gifts (it’s our goal). I got a gigantic hard-sided suitcase and the backpack I wanted for our Europe trip from my parents, and we got THIS from my brothers and sister. Holy awesome.

Saturday was the annual New Year’s Eve party at Chris and Meg’s. It was smaller than previous years due to sickness and the surprise snow, but it was still fantastic. I did some bartending, got to kiss my new husband at midnight (sssh, I can hear you rolling your eyes), and Public Static performed with Cutout Rich on the keytar. At 3am that morning, Meg drove Ryan and Chris to the airport for their flight to the Caymans. (I’m really hoping Ryan just kept drinking all day.)

This week in addition to a very triumphant return to bowling leagues, we went to a Timberwolves game. We have tickets for next week, too, but they’ve been so entertaining lately that we had to go. The game was really entertaining even though they lost by a point. It’s nice to see fans that excited for once.

We’ve also been working on finalizing travel plans for both Vegas (we’re going for Matt’s birthday with Wendy, Amelia, Jumi, and Josh) and our honeymoon. We made reservations for birthday dinner at Jaleo, and also to visit the Neon Boneyard. For Europe, we submitted all our necessary information to the cruise line, and made a ton of hotel reservations. My shock over the insane hotel prices in London was alleviated by the ridiculously cheap prices in Belgium and outside Paris. (As an example, this is where we’re staying in Brussels for $140/night. I don’t think I’ve even set foot inside a 5-star hotel before.) All we have left to do on that trip is decide on a Paris hotel, and buy tickets on the Eurostar so we can ride through the Chunnel!

Now that our honeymoon itinerary is pretty much planned out, I should write about it. Probably later.

Tonight we’re going to stay in cook (and complain about how the Gophers aren’t playing), because we have to be up early tomorrow to drive to Menominee for the funeral. We’re planning to head back right after and stay in Wisconsin, because I’m not really ready to deal with all of that yet. We’re staying at a casino with a really nice pool, so that should help cheer us up, at least.

See you next week!

I have a lot of catching up to do yet again!
