I’ve never sat that close at a baseball game before, so I had to force myself to pay attention most of the time lest I get beaned with a foul ball. It was a good game and the Twins won, but I confess that I spent a lot of time sitting there daydreaming about hockey. I can’t help it!

Afterwards, we repaired to Kieran’s, which was annoyingly packed with people who had the exact same idea, so we took a table in the Titanic Lounge and had it all to ourselves. We were joined by Jumi and Scott, who later accompanied me to the 90s for dancing.

The retro bar was empty, so we hung out downstairs and watched the boys dancing on the bar in their underwear. Jumi and I went to dance to hiphop in the back, which is hysterical because maybe 25% of the people actually dance, and the rest just line the walls, watching in a manner that would creep you out severely if you weren’t intoxicated. I nearly died when The Pimp walked in: skinny white boy in a fedora, velvet jacket, pants belted below his ass, and tons of bling. OH MY GOD. Later, we went to dance to bad techno in the annex. They have a little stage with random video playing at all times (we discovered later it’s features from GayTV), and Jumi pointed out that they were broadcasting scenes from Denali, travel-video style. Then they started showing Seward, then the boat tour we took in the Gulf of Alaska. Soon, I found myself dancing to puffin footage, and it was the happiest day of my life.

Saturday, Kaye and I brunched at Highland Grill, then went over to the costume store on West 7th to get zombification supplies. We found several zombies-to-be shopping there, so we acquainted ourselves with a few while choosing makeup and bottles of mint-flavored blood. I also bought the first item for my Halloween costume, because apparently we can’t possibly be any more excited about Halloween this year. We’ve only been talking about it for a month already.

We pre-zombied at my apartment, which made the drive up to Northeast hysterical: we kept trying to be scary, but passersby just gawked at laughing zombies instead. I got blood all over Kaye’s seatbelt. We picked up Cindi, and met Jumi at Logan Park, where the zombies were amassing and preparing. We smeared ourselves with wet potting soil and further blood, then practiced our staggers. We were set.

So, the Zombie Pub Crawl is pretty much the best idea ever invented. Here are my photos, Kaye’s photos, Jumi’s photos, and those taken by many other zombies. Each bar had a zombie special, which you could order by just staggering up to the bar and groaning, or by yelling BRAAAAINS. We learned that zombies are good at sharing, whether it’s blood or drinks or <strike>food</strike> brains. There was blood everywhere: on tables, walls, all over the street; I’ve never been so sticky in my life. Zombies attacked passing motorists, some of whom were excited about it, and some of whom were not. We danced to Thriller at Boom, and I got to do the zombie cheer: What do we want? BRAINS! When do we want them? BRAAAAAAINS!! At the end of the evening, we met up with a rival gang of pirate bar-crawlers at Spring Street, and had a dance-off in the parking lot. I was confused for a while about why I couldn’t see, and later figured out that I was wearing an eyepatch.

So, basically, best day ever. We should be zombies more often.

Sunday I mostly did things around my house, including hanging up all the artwork I’ve obtained in recent months. I did massive amounts of laundry, shopped for picture frames, and ended the evening with a bath, which is one of the few things I actually enjoy about this weather. Otherwise, the lack of sun is making me feel, well, kind of like a zombie.

BRAAAAAAAINS.
Jenni

OH HELL YES.
