I tilled up the vegetable garden and prepped the giant planter boxes last weekend. I need to get some compost and fertilizer in there, and then everything will be ready to go. And no, I’m not way too early on this stuff: it’s already time to plant peas and lettuce!<\/p>\n
Last weekend was 54 straight hours of trivia, starting at 6pm Friday and ending at midnight Sunday. I managed pretty well until Sunday morning by taking regular breaks and working outside, but by then I was climbing the walls and couldn’t take it anymore. (As I write code 40 hours a week, I prefer to avoid computers in my off hours.) That was hard, and the lack of doin’ stuff is not good for my brain at all. I finally joined back in around 6 Sunday night for the exciting wrap-up. Our team came in 2nd by 15 points, which doesn’t sound like much until you realize that there were over 11,000 points available. Wow.<\/p>\n
Matt and I pre-bowled for our league on Monday, and I did so well (averaging 179) that I’m considering just pre-bowling all the time. Why am I so crappy at it during actual leagues?? On Tuesday, we went to the Twins game that ended in an exciting walk-off single in the 11th inning. After the game, I wanted to stab all the suburban drivers in downtown. Seriously, I worked by the Metrodome for 5 years and now I’m two blocks from Target Field: what I know is that when there are baseball games, that’s the only time I’m likely to nearly get killed in the streets repeatedly. It’s gone way past funny. TAKE THE TRAIN, DAMMIT.<\/p>\n
We also stopped by Bradstreet before the game, because it’s been way too long. Since they’re awesome there, we only had to pay for two of our four cocktails. And<\/em> we got to see their new bottle of mezcal, which has a scorpion in it. Ack.<\/p>\n Last night, Mahogany made my hair look awesome, and then I went and ruined it right away in the swimming pool at Edinborough. I learned that lap-swimming is way more efficient with goggles (I spelled that ‘googles’: hello, nerd), but I still need earplugs to make it pleasant. This hearkens back to my superhot prescription earplugs that I had as a kid, which only sometimes helped prevent the massive painful ear infections I got repeatedly. If I get water in my ears, I worry about it for a week.<\/p>\n I finally got the rollers for my press this week, so I need to run to the hardware store for mineral spirits and a putty knife (and probably a piece of glass to put ink on), and I can test the thing out. One problem at the moment is I still don’t have anything to put it on, but I can probably manage a trial run on the floor. We’re going to go look for a workbench this weekend!<\/p>\n Also, I’m officially halfway through my 101 Things<\/a> goal of spending only cash for a month. The most surprising thing is I’ve spent MORE. How is that possible?
