Time for the year-end roundup! I’ve been copying Chele <\/a>with this for many years now.<\/p>\n

1. What did you do in 2011 that you\u2019d never done before?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Played paintball<\/a>
\nTouched both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in a week’s time
\nBought a printing press<\/a>, set up a studio in my house, and printed wedding invitations
\nWent on a free vacation (thanks to Matt winning the Barritt’s contest<\/a>!)
\nWent to an NCAA basketball tournament<\/a>
\nRode on a party bus
\n Got married<\/a>
\nCompleted my goal to visit all 50 states
\nHad an entire beach just to the two of us<\/a>
\nTook up lap swimming
\nWent to Atlantic City<\/a>
\nWalked on the Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle<\/a>
\nPlayed craps (and won!)
\nWas a ‘walker stalker<\/a>‘ on the Breast Cancer 3-Day (I’ve walked and crewed for the last 7 years, so this was the first time not actually being registered)
\nWrote technical articles for pay
\nSwam in the ocean naked at 3am
\nGot a bagpipe serenade<\/a>
\nWent to trivia every day for a week
\nBuilt a minigolf hole<\/a> (and won a prize for it)
\nWitnessed the red tide (i.e. glowing bioluminescent waves) in the Pacific Ocean
\nRaised the sails<\/a> on a schooner
\nGot a new last name<\/p>\n

2. Did you keep your new years\u2019 resolutions and will you make more for next year? <\/strong><\/p>\n

I didn’t do traditional resolutions this year, but chose to work on my\u00a0101 things<\/a> list \u00a0instead. I feel like I’m making pretty good progress on it, and I’m about halfway through.<\/p>\n

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Steve and Colleen!<\/p>\n

4. Did anyone close to you die?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’d only met her a couple times, but she was amazing: Matt’s grandma passed away at 101 years old.<\/p>\n

5. What countries did you visit?<\/strong><\/p>\n

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Focus? Something on that order, at least. This year was kind of frenetic!<\/p>\n

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our wedding day. For the obvious reasons, of course, but the moment that sticks in my brain the most was when my dad and I were standing there waiting to walk into the ceremony together, and it was the most scared I’ve ever been in my life. Then he made me laugh, and everything was alright.<\/p>\n

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Planning a wedding.
\nExercising a lot… going from 3-4 times\/week to daily, and for longer.
\nThe Pink Carpet<\/a> on the 3-Day<\/p>\n

9. What was your biggest failure?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I only lost 20 pounds before the wedding. I don’t really beat myself up over stuff like that, though.<\/p>\n

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nothing major, thankfully.<\/p>\n

11. What was the best thing you bought?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A seaplane trip to the Dry Tortugas
\nMy C&P Pilot press
\nOur Sodastream
\nOur dining room table… we found a brand new Crate and Barrel table for $50 at ARC. We’ve been using an old IKEA desk as a table forever.
\nMany plane tickets (plus I earned elite status on Delta!)<\/p>\n

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Everyone involved with the 3-Day for the Cure!<\/p>\n

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Republicans. Sweet jesus, America is horrifying sometimes.<\/p>\n

14. Where did most of your money go?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wedding and honeymoon savings. A lot of it went to my stupid ex-dentist, too.<\/p>\n

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our wedding!
\nMy press
\nAny and all vacations. We took several of them.<\/p>\n

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Throwed Off<\/a><\/em>. (NSFW!) We heard it on the radio in Vegas and couldn’t stop laughing about it.
\nParty Rock Anthem<\/em>, because of the 3-Day and our obsession with learning to shuffle.
\nEverything by Pitbull, because there’s basically an entire radio station dedicated to him in Miami, and because it makes me think of parkouring to his party under the overpass<\/a>.<\/p>\n

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:<\/strong><\/p>\n

i. happier or sadder? Happier
\nii. thinner or fatter? Thinner
\niii. richer or poorer? Richer<\/p>\n

18. What do you wish you\u2019d done more of?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Camping. I think I say that every year. Time is always an issue!
\nLaying in the hammock\/sitting in the yard\/working on the garden. Again, the time thing.
\nKnitting – there was something about wedding planning that completely occupied the part of my brain usually dedicated to knitting.<\/p>\n

19. What do you wish you\u2019d done less of?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Being annoyed at work projects that weren’t well-planned at the outset.
\nWorrying that things wouldn’t get done in time, because they always do. I even made myself sick worrying.<\/p>\n

20. How will you be spending Christmas?<\/strong><\/p>\n

With Matt and the in-laws in Watertown. We always have a great time.<\/p>\n

21. Did you fall in love in 2011?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I stayed in love in 2011!<\/p>\n

22. What was your favorite TV program?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Breaking Bad <\/em><\/p>\n

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn\u2019t hate this time last year?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’ve heard that hatin’s bad.<\/p>\n

24. What was the best book you read?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I finally finished The Coming Plague<\/a><\/em>. It’s very medically-nerdy (I love that stuff) and also terrifying.<\/p>\n

25. What was your greatest musical discovery of 2011?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Besides Throwed Off<\/em>? Maybe\u00a0Mr Saxobeat<\/em>. (It’s perfect for the gym.) Also Art Official<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

26. What did you want and get?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I can’t say anything wedding-related that’s not really embarrassingly sappy here, so:
\nA press and the supplies to go with it
\nA new camera<\/p>\n

27. What did you want and not get?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Um… well, once after Matt won the trip to Bermuda, he didn’t win a trip to Portugal. So that, I guess? Life is hard.<\/p>\n

28. What was your favorite film of this year?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tabloid<\/em>. Errol Morris is the best.<\/p>\n

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Matt, Jumi, Cindi and I took a happy hour cruise on the Mississippi River, then had dinner and drinks at Masu. I turned 38 this year!<\/p>\n

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?<\/strong><\/p>\n

More downtime, but again… my life is pretty satisfying already.<\/p>\n

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Convenient, Gophers-logoed<\/p>\n

32. What kept you sane?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Matt. Also sports, crafts, and doing the New York Times crossword puzzle on the couch every Sunday.<\/p>\n

33. Which celebrity\/public figure did you fancy the most?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eh.<\/p>\n

34. What political issue stirred you the most?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fact that the republican party seems to be a giant race the bottom, to see who can be the least intelligent and most bible-banging. It’s offensive.<\/p>\n

35. Who did you miss?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My grandma. I thought about her a lot because of the wedding, and wish Matt had gotten to meet her.<\/p>\n

36. Who was the best new person you met?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m not sure if I met anyone new this year! At least not anyone I see regularly; we met a ton of interesting people on vacation. One of my favorites was Ian from England, who we hung out with in St George’s, Bemuda, on the day Amy Winehouse died.<\/p>\n

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I could probably spend my entire life traveling, assuming I don’t have to spend too much time in places like Bismarck. I don’t miss home that much when we’re gone.<\/p>\n
