Matt and I joined Costco a while back, after Colleen showed us the true way. Though many people have sung its praises over the years, we really didn’t think it’d be worth it for us. After all:<\/p>\n
1) there’s only two of us<\/p>\n
2) we’re out a lot, so we tend to plan and buy for a meal at a time, lest perishables spoil<\/p>\n
3) I’m vegetarian, so I didn’t expect to find much in the way of alternative protein<\/p>\n
4) we don’t eat a lot of pre-packaged foods<\/p>\n
Could we possibly find enough there that would justify the $50 yearly membership? As it turns out, we can. Way too much, in fact.<\/p>\n
I’m a careful shopper. I’m aware that very dollar I spend at Target means a dollar I don’t spend buying my bar in the tropics, or sending me on vacation. I pay attention to prices, and have even started using coupons occasionally. (You know the problem with coupons? At least 75% of them are for that same name-brand prepackaged food we don’t buy. I like coupons for staples and household stuff.) So I was very surprised at the prices at Costco… most of that stuff is actually a really good deal. It’s hard to have to pay a lot at once, though, so I was shying away from purchasing everything we needed.<\/p>\n
Therefore, we decided to just go twice a month after payday and stock up on things. We already have a section of the downstairs shelving devoted to our stockpile, and it’s awesome to know we’ll probably never run out of trash bags again. Also, Costco sends out quarterly coupons, and I was beyond thrilled to realize that almost everything on my list was in the coupon book, too. WIN.<\/p>\n
And their pizza’s good, too. Oh, and I can get premium gas for really cheap. And I need to check into what their contacts cost.\u00a0 I suspect they may be an awesome deal.<\/p>\n
