Dick and Claudia do Key West

We set my parents up with a two-day ticket on the Old Town Trolley this week, because it’s one of those hop-on-hop-off buses that circles the entire island and stops at all the major tourist spots. My dad can’t walk very far because of back problems, so this seemed ideal. (Plus driving anywhere in Old Town is a horrible nightmare and nobody should ever have to do it.) They just headed off to visit the Hemingway house before we meet for Cuban sandwiches at lunch.

Last night after work, I took them to Mallory Square to see the sunset celebration. The sky was cloudy so we didn’t get a proper sunset, but the sky was gorgeous all the same. They had pina coladas and we sat watching Key West Mustafa, the same guy my mother-in-law joined in singing the Banana Boat Song a couple years ago.

We watched a cruise ship sail away after sunset, then went over to Waterfront Brewery for dinner, followed by a stop at Schooner Wharf for a drink. (It’s one of the places we have to take everyone who comes to Key West.)

Tonight we’re doing a sunset sail on a schooner we haven’t been on yet. Sunset’s now so early – 5:45pm – that we have to go over there right from work to board.

Stay tuned for a million pictures of sunset.
