I fell drastically behind on Infinite Summer while in Watertown; I think I managed all of five pages while we were there. Thanks to a fairly lazy Sunday and some time last night, I caught up! I’m on page 242 now, almost 25% of the way through the book.
I’m enjoying it a lot. I’m not sure why I was so annoyed the first time I tried to read it. It takes a while to be able to read his style easily, but I’m there now. Also, I love that he was obviously obsessed with A Clockwork Orange, which is one of my favorite books ever, re:
1) dystopian
2) I speak Russian, so the slang is especially fascinating
I was bothered by one thing in Infinite Jest so far:
1) he spelled ‘Monistat’ wrong. I dunno, maybe it’s intentional.
The problem with cramming almost 100 pages of intense reading into the last two days is that I’m dreaming about it all night. You know how he keeps talking about ‘fugues’? That’s basically my dreams right now.
How are you guys doing on this??
I’m caught up and a little ahead, but yeah.. it’s intense. I can’t read it right before bed because if I do I can’t sleep at all – my mind races!
seriously. i keep associating madame psychosis’ character with someone i know, too, so it’s freaking me out a LOT.
I’m way behind now. Hoping to get caught up this week. Summer is a bad time for me to try to read anything :)
i know! this should’ve been a winter project. except no minnesotan wants to hear about ‘infinite winter’.
I’m still a little behind, but I’m confident that camping will be my savior. Unless I get distracted by dutch ovens or whizcutters…
we’ll have forced reading time. you, jumi and i are all reading it, after all.
I’m looking forward to some serious catch-up time this weekend!
